Salsa Shoe
I was in Cuba on business. The trip was dragging on longer than I'd planned, and on an impulse I decided to take a few salsa lessons to pass the lonely afternoons.
For a teacher, she was pretty green, but what the hell, so was I. The sultry swaying of our hips gradually chipped away at my inhibitions, and by the end of the hour I actually felt it might appear to the casual observer that I had both a left and a right foot. I knew I'd be returning for another lesson. I still had a lot to learn from this saucy Caribbean tomato.

Every shoe tells a story — I created a trio of shoes for the Tomato Festival at Art + Invention in Nashville — this one, the Pomodoro Shoe and the Bloody Mary Shoe. The other two had to be red, and I wanted to show a green tomato, too.
